  • The Greatest Story Ever Told
    The Greatest Story Ever Told

    Available until 31 Aug 2017

The life of Christ gets the Hollywood blockbuster treatment in this almighty undertaking from 1965. Max von Sydow stars as Jesus with Charlton Heston as John the Baptist, and a host of international stars from John Wayne to Telly Savalas cropping up in cameo roles. With Shane and Giant under his belt - and a little uncredited help from David Lean - director George Stevens is well up to the epic task.

  • Samson and Delilah (1949)
    Samson and Delilah (1949)

    Available until 31 Mar 2018

Flamboyant director Cecil B DeMille's double Oscar-winning biblical epic starred Victor Mature as the legendary strongman and Hedy Lamarr as the Philistine seductress with vengeance on her mind. Angela Lansbury plays Semadar, Samson's first love, while George Sanders is the evil Saran of Gaza. Trivia: the temple pulled down by Samson at the film's climax took five months to build... and eight months to demolish.

  • The Ten Commandments
    The Ten Commandments

    Available until 31 May 2018

Cecil B DeMille's almighty epic stars Charlton Heston as Moses and is particularly notable for the Oscar-winning "parting of the Red Sea" sequence. Ironically, the left-leaning Edward G Robinson's waning career was given a shot in the arm by right-wing DeMille's casting of him in the key role of Dathan opposite Heston's colossal tablet-carrier. A bush-burning bonanza of biblical proportions.
