Ricki and the Flash

2015
97 Mins

After deserting her family in a belated bid for stardom with covers band The Flash, ageing rock chick Ricki Rendazzo (Meryl Streep) gets a shot at redemption when her ex (Kevin Kline) calls her back for a family crisis. She might be going nowhere as a musician, but with her daughter Julie (Streep's real-life scion Mamie Gummer) on the verge of a divorce and a breakdown, this could be Ricki's chance to make a comeback as a mother. Marvel's 'Winter Soldier' Sebastian Stan and real-life rocker Rick Springfield join the line-up in this lively comedy drama from the Oscar-winning duo of veteran director Jonathan Demme (The Silence of the Lambs) and Juno screenwriter Diablo Cody.

"Love means never having to say you're sorry" went the tag-line of this unabashed tear-jerker that launched Ali MacGraw and Ryan O'Neal into the bigtime and became one of the biggest hits of the 1970s. A simple tale of two young lovers poked in the heart by the cruel finger of fate, it brought on more runny eyes and noses than the common cold. To all the incurable romantics out there: see it; you won't be sorry.
