Southpaw

2015
118 Mins

After battling up through Hell's Kitchen foster homes and jail cells, boxing champ Billy "the Great" Hope (Jake Gyllenhaal) has it all - an adoring wife (Rachel McAdams), a precious young daughter, and a life of luxury. However, when he's confronted by a mouthy rival (Miguel Gomez), a tragic accident plunges him back into a hellish world. But under the mentorship of an ageing trainer (Forest Whitaker), Billy mounts a redemptive comeback. The combination of Gyllenhaal's powerhouse performance and typically unflinching direction from Antoine 'The Equalizer' Fuqua makes for a drama worth getting ringside for.

Director: Antoine Fuqua

Starring: Jake Gyllenhaal, Rachel McAdams, Forest Whitaker, Naomie Harris, Curtis "50 Cent" Jackson, Miguel Gomez
