William Shatner takes the director's chair as well as the bridge of the USS Enterprise in the fifth cinematic outing for Kirk and his crew. This time out they embark on a mission to rescue three consuls who have been taken hostage. Dwelling heavily on the existence of God, it all gets quite profound... but it's still an entertaining romp through space with the galaxy's most indomitable adventurers.

Universally regarded as the best feature outing of the USS Enterprise, Trek II sees William Shatner's Admiral Kirk doing battle with old adversary, Khan, who has stolen the universe-threatening Genesis device. Ramped up (and slightly camped up) by director Nicholas Meyer, it's a rip-roaringly enjoyable sci-fi yarn for die-hard fans and less boldly-goers alike. Ricardo Montalban plays Khan like the greatest panto villain of all time while Shatner's Kirk is still inspirational in command, despite going through a mid-life crisis. Great stuff.

The first big screen mission for the crew of the USS Enterprise sees Admiral Kirk (William Shatner) retake the bridge to intercept a deadly forcefield that is heading towards Earth. Gone are the wonky sets of the long-running TV series and in come impressive special effects (courtesy of 2001's Douglas Trumbull) and sure-footed direction from two-time Oscar-winner Robert Wise (although having more in common with his work on The Day The Earth Stood Still than The Sound Of Music). Coming a decade after the end of the TV series, it's great to see the old guard back in action.

Patrick Stewart's Captain Picard leads from the front whilst going back in time for this terrific entry in Star Trek's cinematic starlog. The fearless crew of the Enterprise must travel back to 21st-century Earth to prevent the Federation's deadliest enemy - the Borg - from causing more cosmic mischief. Superbly played and dynamically paced, the eighth big-screen outing in the ongoing mission presents the intergalactic heroes at their Borg-bashing best.

Transformers and Pearl Harbor director Michael Bay doesn't do small... and that certainly goes for the asteroid that's about to hit Earth in this colossal sci-fi blockbuster. With Earth about to come off worst in a cosmic collision, Bruce Willis and his team of oil-drilling roughnecks volunteer to intercept and destroy the rapidly approaching space rock. The fact that hotshot engineer Ben Affleck is dating his daughter (Liv Tyler) is just one of the many spanners in the works. A juicy 100% American action-burger with a side-order of cheesy rock, courtesy of Aerosmith.
