Jim Carrey plays Truman Burbank, the unwitting star of the world's longest running docu-soap: the ongoing story of his own life. Truman's island world is the largest set ever built, everyone he knows is an actor, the sea is artificial and even the moon a satellite from which the show is controlled by its visionary creator (Ed Harris). Peter Weir's deftly constructed fantasy yarn elicits a wonderful performance of innocence, sympathy and restraint from the usually wired-to-the-mains Carrey. Think Big Brother with brains... and class.
