Originally from Copenhagen, Denmark, Coster-Waldau graduated from the Danish National School of Theatre in Copenhagen in 1993. He was brought up by his mother in a small village in southern New Zealand. Coster- Waldau went on to have success on stage, which soon followed his first film role. This led to an affluent acting career in Europe. Costa -Waldau went on to feature in a string of popular movies and TV shows, most of which he has received multiple nominations for.
Jamie Lannister played by Coster-Waldau is one of his most recognised roles, in the famous TV series Game of Thrones (2011).
In 2017, Shot Caller gave Coster-Waldau the opportunity to play a respected family orientated citizen to a hardened prisoner, which received praise from multiple film reviewers.
