Director Jon M. Chu reunites Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande as former besties Elphaba and Glinda, whose once-strong bond has fractured, their choices in the first instalment having torn them apart.
As the Wicked Witch of the West, Elphaba continues her mission to defend the animals of Oz and unmask the fraudulent Wizard of Oz from the shadows. Glinda, on the other hand, has embraced her new celebrity alongside Madame Morrible as figureheads of progress and good magic in the Emerald City.
Inspired by her upcoming wedding, Glinda tries to resolve things with Elphaba and the Wizard, only to widen the rift further and set off a chain reaction that will have consequences for everyone, including Fiyero, Boq, Nessarose, and a new stranger from Kansas.
The fate of Oz rests in the hands of these fraught friends – will they be able to reconcile with their past to save their future?
