Hi,, how can we help today?

Too many streams error: how to fix it

If you see a ‘too many streams’ message, it usually means your account is already being used to watch on another device. To fix it, stop watching on the other device and make sure you've fully exited the show or movie before trying again. If you’ve recently added Boost or Ultra Boost, check that it’s showing as active in My Account. You can also check the Devices area of My Account to see what devices are signed in.

Follow the troubleshooting steps below to fix the problem:

Before you start

This error message usually appears if:

  • You’re trying to watch on more than one device at a time
  • A previous stream hasn’t ended properly

Keep in mind:

  • You can only watch on more than one device at the same time if you have Boost or Ultra Boost
  • If you’ve just upgraded to Boost or Ultra Boost, it can take up to 4 hours for your account to update
  • If you added Boost or Ultra Boost via your NOW Box or Smart Stick, smart TV, PlayStation or Xbox, the update should be instant.

How to fix 'too many streams' error

Step 1. Stop watching on your other device(s)

Make sure you fully exit the show or movie you were watching. This ends the stream so you can start watching on another device. Close the NOW app and turn off your device rather than just pressing pause.

Step 2. Wait up to 10 minutes, then try again

If you’ve just stopped watching on the other device, the previous stream may still be clearing. Try waiting 10 minutes before watching again.

Step 3. Check your Boost or Ultra Boost upgrade

If you’ve upgraded to Boost or Ultra Boost but your extra streams aren’t working yet, check if your account's updated by heading to My Account. If Boost or Ultra Boost is showing as active, the likely problem is that you have too many active streams. If it’s not active yet, you can trigger your account to update by signing out and signing back in. Then try watching again.

Step 4. Check your devices and streams

Check the Devices area of My Account to see what devices are currently signed in and using your account. If you recognise the device, use the steps above to stop the other stream. If you don’t recognise a device, select Sign Out All.

Step 5. Secure your account

If you’ve spotted some unusual activity or you think someone else may be using your account, reset your password and select Sign Out All in the Devices area of My Account.

Still need help?

If that didn’t work, try the steps below:

  • Restart the NOW app, browser or device you were using
  • If your browser or computer crashed during playback, wait 10 minutes before trying to watch again
  • Try watching on another device to check whether the issue is device-specific.
