About this series

The Wire is a hugely successful HBO Max crime drama that made stars of Dominic West and Idris Elba in the early 2000s. First aired in 2002, it follows all the players, from the dealers to the police to the politicians, entangled in the Baltimore drug scene. When the show was originally on TV it was severely underrated, not winning any awards despite being lauded for its brilliant script-writing and accurate exploration of society, politics and urban life. But in recent years, The Wire has gained a cult following and is now widely regarded as one of the best TV shows of all time.
