Set up your NOW Smart Box

Our step-by-step guide will have you watching brilliant entertainment on your Smart Box in no time.

NOW Smart Box   

Check you've got all of this before you start:

You should have the following included with your box:

  • NOW Smart Box
  • Remote control
  • 2 x AAA batteries
  • HDMI cable
  • Power adaptor with mains plug

You’ll also need:

  • A broadband connection
  • A TV with an HDMI port
  • A smartphone or computer at the ready.

 

Step 1:

Connect your Smart Box to your TV using the HDMI cable provided.

Step 2:

Now plug your Smart Box in at the mains using the power adaptor. Your box will switch itself on when plugged in.

Please only ever use the power adaptor provided to plug in your NOW Smart Box.

Step 3:

Pop the batteries supplied with your Smart Box into the remote control.

You’ll need your remote to finish setting up your box.

Step 4:

Using your TV remote, go to the main menu and switch input or source to HDMI.

Step 6:

Follow the onscreen instructions to connect to your Wi-Fi network.

Or, if it's positioned close enough, you could hook your Smart Box up to a router or modem instead using an Ethernet cable for a wired connection. (This could help avoid any problems with buffering if you have a slow Wi-Fi connection.)

How do I reconnect my Smart Box to Wi-Fi?

If you connect your box to your router with an Ethernet cable, Wi-Fi will automatically be disabled. To reconnect to Wi-Fi:

  1. Disconnect your Ethernet cable.
  2. Using your NOW remote, go to Settings, then Network, then Wireless and then Set up new wireless connection
  3. Select your Wi-Fi network from the list and enter your password.
  4. Select Connect.

Keep in mind: Your Smart Box will already be Wi-Fi enabled when you get it, so you don’t need to do anything to switch this on.


Step 7:

Scroll down to read the terms and conditions, then hit Accept.

Now grab your smartphone or computer and follow the instructions on your TV screen to sign in to your NOW account, or create an account if you're new to NOW.

Wait a few moments while your apps update, then open the NOW app and away you go!

How do I put my Smart Box on standby?

To put your Smart Box on standby, either:

  • Turn off your TV, or
  • Disconnect the HDMI cable between your Smart Box and TV.

Auto standby

Your Smart Box will also go into standby mode if you don’t touch your NOW remote for 4 hours. You’ll see a warning onscreen before this happens – just press any button on your remote to carry on watching.

To turn off auto standby, using your NOW remote:

Step 1:

Go to Settings, and select System.

Step 2:

Select Power, then Auto power off.

Step 3:

Remove the tick to turn off auto standby.

Help tip: To turn your Smart Box back on, just press any button on your NOW remote.
