Director Cameron Crowe reworks Alejandro Amenabar's Spanish mindbender Open Your Eyes with Tom Cruise as the playboy publisher leading a seemingly charmed life. His most recent "friend" is Julie Gianni (Cameron Diaz), who cares for David more than he realises. When he meets the dark-eyed Sofia Serrano (Penelope Cruz) at his birthday party, he awakens to the possibility of what true love can feel like, leaving Julie an emotional wreck. However, after an accident that changes David's life, he is forced to reconsider where he is going.
