Ângela Diniz: Murdered and Convicted

In the 1970s, prominent socialite Ângela Diniz divorces her wealthy husband and quickly finds herself embroiled in a custody battle over their young daughter. Later, an act of self-defence propels Ângela into the tabloids.

After moving to Rio de Janeiro, Ângela faces difficulties moving through society without a husband, but manages to make a name for herself amid a new social scene. Later, problems arise when Ângela is accused of kidnapping her own daughter.

After she is accused of drug trafficking, Ângela is drawn to the larger-than-life Doca Street.

After her lawyer advises her to settle down to better her chances at custody, Ângela pursues Doca – who soon becomes jealous of every man and woman in his new partner's life.

After a heartfelt plea, Ângela finds herself back with Doca in the resort town of Búzios, but his controlling behaviour continues to plague their relationship – and is exacerbated when a group of friends arrive in town.

1979. Doca's trial is met with support, condemnation, and a media fervor that takes Brazil by storm. Later, Ângela's loved ones use their anger to start a movement aimed at changing laws that protect abusers.
