Edith's dreams of retirement to the sun with her long-term suitor Phil are shattered when her 50-year-old son Roger arrives home, seeking to recapture the happiness of his boyhood.

Edith turns 70, and Phil and Roger try to outshine each other with their gifts, while Roger also plots to ruin his mother's new romance. Joanna Scanlan and Anne Reid guest star.

Mrs Gale gives herself the task of being a marriage guidance counsellor to Roger and Wendy, while Edith and Phil seize the chance to get away for the weekend.

Bob suggests that Roger apply to become his mother's paid carer - but problem is that she is in perfect health, so he needs someone more in need of support to pose as her.
