The Man Who Fell to Earth

A perfectly cast David Bowie - who, in his first major role, admitted he was stoned on cocaine throughout the production - played Thomas Jerome Newton, an enigmatic, humanoid alien who visits Earth in search of water to save his dying planet...but is corrupted by earthly pleasures including the temptations of the flesh offered by Candy Clark. Using his superior technical knowledge, Bowie's extra-terrestrial quickly amasses a fortune to build a space vehicle with the intention of shipping water back to his planet. However, he meets lonely Mary Lou (Clark) and his plans go awry. Superlative adult sci-fi from director Nicolas Roeg.
